#Vata #Kapha Oatmeal for the Winter
A practical yet simple recipe
The weather during this time of the year is generally dry and/or windy since we are smack-dab in the middle of sheeta kaal (the cold season). Just like how plants & trees shed their leaves and most animals are in hibernation, we too must take a moment to conserve our Shakti. This includes nourishing the body with the right type of food based on your dosha(s) (discover yours here!).
For example, it is not advisable to eat some raw fruits and/or vegetables during the wintertime. This is because it requires more energy (or “scientifically” speaking, enzymes) to digest than if they were cooked or soaked in water for some time.
The following recipe is an excellent way for these two dosha-dominants to stay warm and toasty this season!
Recipe:
3 cups filtered water
1 cup rolled oats
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 banana, peeled and sliced
1/3 cup plant-based milk (mylk)— I’m using oat!
Optional (reduce or avoid if Kapha dominant)-
Soaked & sliced almonds
Chia seeds
Flax powder
Maple syrup
How to make:
Combine water, oats, cardamom and cinnamon in pot at low-medium heat
Cook until oats are tender
Remove from heat and if desired, combine plant-based mylk of choice
Add banana and other optional ingredients into bowl (I had kiwi at home)
Enjoy hot and fresh :)
